BACHELOR’S DEGREE IN JOURNALISM
In 1994, Gina hit the ground running at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and immediately found herself right at home in the College of Journalism and Mass Communications. Discouraged the college didn't allow freshmen to take journalism classes, she loaded up on other required courses outside the college, which laid the foundation for a well-rounded journalism education.
During her years on campus, Gina was fortunate enough to come under the tutelage of such experienced journalists as Dick Thien and George Tuck. While earning her degree, Gina completed extensive courses in photojournalism, design and typography. Success in the latter course hinged on the final project: a fully functional web site, complete with edited text and photos and judged on its presentation. Her senior-level design course left her solely in charge of the production of an entire magazine. The project required extensive editing of submitted copy, photo editing and creative design solutions. (She aced the class.)
In December 1998, Gina received her Bachelor's Degree in journalism, with an emphasis in news-editorial and minors in English, history and economics.
