Hired to The Desert Sun copy desk in August 2000, Gina designed front pages and section fronts, selecting photos, editing copy and writing headlines.
Gina was selected to serve a term on the newspaper’s editorial board, occasionally writing or collaborating on op-ed pieces for the paper. During that time, she wrote a 9/11 column published on the Opinion page in the paper's Sept. 11, 2002, edition.
At the request of the paper's editors, she also served as a member of the paper's design audit team in Fall 2002. She continued to establish herself as a newsroom leader, organizing a weekly discussion group for newsroom page designers in February 2003.
